Game won't load error refers to graphics card and/or driver

  • I just purchased Linkrealms (was pretty excited) but I am not able to launch it.

I installed it on a Windows 10 machine running on a recent AMD cpu and R9 200 series gpu.

This is the most recent error code I received. I also tried at my native resolution 1900x1200 and got the same error.

    Direct3D init failure: 0868
    Window: 1920x1080
    Device: 1920x1080 (fmt: 22, swp: 1)
    Max texture dims: 16384x16384 (8)

Also the submit bug mechanism would not work complaining there is not default mail reader while Microsoft new 'Mail' app is definitely set as the default.

ah hell, i have this error too... Don't tell me AMD is incompatible...

mine fixed. What I did was, downloaded directx 9 again, didn't do an uninstall of the one I have. And then I restarted my computer. The game worked after that.

You MUST restart your computer. Whether it was from the install, or just from the restart, I know not. But restarting is a must it seems.

Hi jtrip, try to do what Sefer did - re-install directx9:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35&tduid=(42297b7e3270a274d8d5b0aa916f0a9d)(256380)(2459594)(TnL5HPStwNw-Af4pK8zj.9dCwzAxM4.dBw)()

Windows 10 is known to have troubles running DirectX 9 games - not in general, but a few users experience this.

Let us know if that worked!

  • Hi Prometheus and Sefer,

Thanks for the tip, I was surprised to see that even though the directx9 installer you linked to did not install because a newer version already exists, the game launched successfully! Well Almost...

I got to the login screen and While the game was "Verifying Steam Credentials..." it hung indefinitely. I tried to let it run but the bug report agent was triggered multiple times with the message: "The application seems to be frozen."

    Thanks for your help!

P.S. I really love your detailed bug report agent but it makes me sad that it won't work with my default email client.... I wish I could just copy out all the info at once to be able to paste it here!

Glad to hear that worked. This other issue you are reporting is probably of entirely different nature. Have a look here:

  • Hey @Prometheus, unfortunately 'worked' doesn't seem to be the case here. While that did get me farther along the game is now crashing at the Verifying Steam Credentials step, sounds like the beta is pretty new to steam so maybe there is an issue related to that. Apparently also the DirectX error comes back sometimes when I try to start but an OS restart seems to help.

I didn't mention before but this is a new installation of windows 10 and I did have Windows Defender turned on, so I turned that off and restarted however I still encountered the same issue at Steam credential verification. It starts to hang just a second or two after verification begins.

Please let me know if you have any more suggestions.

Also if this crash report data is usefull I can capture more.

  • Seems like another kernel thing issue in here... Welcome aboard lol.

Please keep following the suggestions of this thread if you can:

No need to disable the AV and reboot, just add the Linkrealms folder to the exclusion list of the AV as explained in the topic. If you have another AV software, please add it to that too. There is a 99% it's an AV issue really. Let us know!

  • I had the same problem, Im using windows 10 and on the desktop icon i right clicked and ran as admin and it patched everything, Hope it works for you to
